The internationally renown band Oi Va Voi is opening this year with a soundtrack for the film Morvern Callar. For eight years already this London band has made a success out of mixing klezmer, pop and dance to a sparkling, up tempo and dramatic sound. The social realistic drama of Morvern Callar begins with a young girl that finds her boyfriend dead on the kitchen floor, with cut wrists, on Christmas morning. The bestowed tape with carefully selected tunes, defines not only the kind and the moment she hears music, it also defines the experience for the audience. But what if Oi Va Voi is the one to make the selection and in a certain way be the one to take charge?
Different from many of its kind, this social realism film - a theme the English cinema excels in – surpasses the cliché image of a hopeless existence in the working class.
Oi Va Voi (Jiddish for Oh my God) is coming to Amsterdam mid March in their full formation of 7 members, to present their version of Morvern Callar to the public, in one of the most beautiful film houses in Amsterdam. We can already share with you, that part of the soundtrack will contain new material of their soon to be released new album. It will be released internationally in the Spring.
