What if you reduce film to sound and text? Australian Artist Emile Zile experiments with this principle in his performance by relocating film in an aural setting. Smart associations offer a new view on well-known and less familiar films.
About the performer:
Emile Zile is a video artist, performer and producer. His single-channel videos, live performances and installations have examined the marketing of the 'War on Terror' in Australia, representations of Steve Irwin's life and death, Jerry Springer show audience members and the distribution of memorial videos on YouTube. He is a graduate of R.M.I.T. Media Arts, Melbourne and is currently enrolled in the M.F.A. program at Sandberg
Institute, Amsterdam.
"Zile (re)created cinematic narratives through the combination of evocative music and textual commands. Simple words like “Hero”, “Villain”, “BANG”, stuck to the surface of a television and projected onto a big screen via video feed, conjured entire narratives. These witty Post-It Kino performances earned Zile the honour of being the only conceptual artist that I have ever seen receive a round of cheers, whistles and applause for their work. "
